My Personal Philosophy
"If we truly want to serve all women, we must let go of our own biases and surrender to the
desires of the mother, even when they do not align with our own." ~ Author unknown

This quote speaks to me.
I do not have an agenda. I am not perfect, I did not have perfect births. But birth is beautiful and amazing, no matter how it happens.
I believe every woman deserves to have the emotional and physical support she needs to thrive during pregnancy and birth.
As a doula, my goal is to support your birthing decisions. I want you to feel confident and informed so that you can be successful in attaining the birth experience you want. I want to be there for you whether you are hoping to have a home birth, hospital birth, induction, c-section, or anything in between. I want you to feel empowered and supported while you birth your baby.
I believe in evidence based care and that every woman needs to choose the best and safest birth for her.
I will not judge you or try to talk you into changing your plans. I will offer information to help you make the best decision for you and your family. Then I will stand by you. No matter what.

My interest in birth and medicine started long before I became a doula. Growing up I always knew I wanted to be a mom. And I knew that I would want to have natural births because that’s how my mom birthed her babies. I spent some time in nursing school at Linfield College. I didn't become a nurse, but I did get my certification to be a nursing assistant. So I am very comfortable in the hospital setting.
After my first birth I came across Cafemom.com where I became a moderator for the pregnancy group. I started spending a lot of time answering women’s pregnancy questions and helping them get through their problems. I did a lot of searching and learning to find answers to the more complicated pregnancy issues.
During my second pregnancy I had gestational diabetes and ended up with an unwanted induction at 41 weeks. I was terrified! It was a very hard labor for me and I felt very alone. Looking back, I really wished I had a doula to guide me through the experience and help me cope with the pain. My birth experience and my time with Cafemom led me to realize my passion for pregnancy, birth, and supporting women.
As I spend more time working as a doula, I know that I am truly following my heart. I am so happy to be doing this work.
